Mine Goes on the Internet

For months, I had been planning on getting the new 3G iPhone. I was saving my pennies and planned to use my stimulus money to buy it! When June finally rolled around, Apple announced the arrival date and that the phone going to be sold for 1/2 the original price. I was very excited. I told Jho that I was going to get one!

And then I found out that the data plan was going to be 10 dollars more than it is now. Plus you’ll now have to add on another 5 dollars a month just to have text messages! After much internal struggle on my part, I decided to forego the iPhone. :(

Kuya Jojo DID tell me that the data plan for ANY phone (not just the iPhone) running on AT&T’s 3G would all cost the same amount. So, whether I bought the iPhone now or later… I would still have to pay that outrageous price. But I thought to myself, “If I can stall on going with 3G, I should just wait.”

I dont use my phone that much anyways. Although, it would be nice be to connected to the internet via cell phone. Because then, I could Twitter all my current events, check my email and look at ebay… oh, yeah and Facebook it!! :)

So, whats the next best thing to getting an iPhone? Getting an iPod Touch!

Nick always talked about how fab craigslist.com was. He would get all these things like bikes and thingydoodles and whatchahoozits and gadgets and gizmos, so I thought why not try it! I found pretty good deals. The “best” deal was for a 32 gb iPod, NEW, selling for 250 and it came with the 2.0 upgrade! I emailed some guy inquiring about it and he immediately emailed me back.

SWEET!
Or, so I thought.

We exchanged a couple more emails, then I found out that he was in Romania on business and wouldn’t be returning to the U.S. for a while… but, if i wanted I could MoneyGram him the 250.

I was skeptical at this point, but being a new user of craigslist, I was still interested. I talked to Kris, Jho, Mel and John about it and they all said it was a bad idea. I was sad, but at the same time, I was glad they talked some sense into me!

I know… weird.
I was just so excited about it all: 32 gigs! New! Update included! 250!!
But, now that I think about it, how does someone get a brand new, IN THE BOX SEALED ipod and is willing to sell it for 1/2 the retail price?!

Stolen?
Maybe… Probably.
Yeah… for sure!
I sent him a friendly email that told him that I wasn’t going to do it.

Like a total weenie, I totally overlooked a HUGE banner on craigslist that says

Avoid scams and fraud by dealing locally! Beware any deal involving Western Union, Moneygram, wire transfer, cashier check, money order, shipping, escrow, or any promise of transaction protection, certification, guarantee.

But, I didn’t give up hope. I still went on craigslist to hopefully find a USED iPod. Lots of people were advertising, but no one ever responded to any of the emails I sent… except for this one guy, Lyndon.

This time, it was a 16 gb, used iPod, but he included an iSkin case.
We emailed back and forth and then I finally called him. We decided to meet at an In & Out parking lot. I took Ate with me. This was the first time I’ve ever done something like this.

“What if THIS guy’s iPod is stolen!?!”
“What if there’s something wrong with it, that he not telling me about?!”
“What if i’m totally being duped into buying a bad product?!”

Lyndon assured me that the iPod was fine. He just never really got into using it, and since the new iPhone came he really wanted to get it!

After looking at the iPod, and showing Ate… I gave him the money. As I drove home I prayed that the iPod wasn’t a funky one… And it wasn’t! Or, well… it ISN’T!

I think I made a pretty buy and I’m very happy with my used– umm, I mean my “pre-owned” iPod Touch. I’ve added a lot of music, some photos and updated the Contacts and Calendar! I got the 2.0 Upgrade and bought Solitaire (Thanks, Jack for the iTune Christmas present)!

Photobucket
I know, Grover has a boo-boo on his knee :(

I find my new gadget useful when my computer is busy doing stuff like, downloading things or I’m editting photos or something– it needs not to be disturbed with my web surfing or auction winning!

I gave my red nano to my mom. I said to her, “You can have this…” Then showed her the iPod touch and said, “Cuz, mine goes on the internet.”

:)
